​Your Day-by-Day Aftercare Guide

Skin needling starts a controlled renewal process in your skin, and the days that follow are when most of that work happens. Following this guide closely protects your results, reduces downtime and helps your skin heal comfortably.

Day 0 — treatment day

Your skin will feel warm, tight and a little sunburnt. This is normal and expected. Leave your skin bare for the rest of the day — no makeup, no active products, nothing you haven't been given. Keep it clean, keep it hydrated, and keep it out of the sun.

Day 1 — first 24 hours

Pinkness or redness is at its most visible today, along with some tightness and mild swelling. Cleanse gently with cool water or a mild cleanser and pat dry — don't rub.

Apply the sodium hyaluronate serum generously, follow with your Vitamin B Co serum and finish with your moisturiser. Vitamin B Co and your moisturiser are the only actives for the first 48 hours. Your Vitamin A and Vitamin C serums both wait until day 3.

No makeup for 24 hours. No heat — no sauna, steam room, hot yoga, hot showers. No swimming, no heavy sweating, no intense exercise.

Day 2

Redness should be settling into a pink flush. Skin may feel dry, tight or slightly flaky as the micro-channels close and the surface begins to renew.

Continue with the same simple routine: gentle cleanse, sodium hyaluronate serum, Vitamin B Co serum, moisturiser. Reapply moisturiser through the day if skin feels tight — dryness is the most common complaint in these first days, and it responds well to more moisture, not to more product.

Still no Vitamin A or Vitamin C today. Still no heat, swimming or heavy sweating.

Day 3 — actives return

Your skin is ready for more from today. Reintroduce your Vitamin A serum and your Vitamin C serum, starting at the lower strength if you hold both. Continue the sodium hyaluronate, the Vitamin B Co and your moisturiser.

If your skin still stings on contact, feels tight rather than comfortable, or is visibly red rather than pink, wait one more day. Your skin sets the pace, not the calendar.

Why your Vitamin A is fine from day 3. The vitamin A in your routine is retinyl palmitate — the gentlest form of vitamin A. It's an ester, which means your skin has to convert it into retinoic acid before it does anything, and that conversion happens slowly and in small amounts. That is a completely different proposition from a prescription-strength retinol or tretinoin, which act directly and can strip and irritate freshly treated skin. By day 3 the inflammatory phase of healing has settled, the micro-channels have closed and the barrier has started to rebuild, so your skin is no longer in that raw, hyper-receptive state of the first 48 hours. At that point a gentle ester-form vitamin A is well tolerated by most healthy skin, and it's worth having back because vitamin A supports the cell renewal and collagen work the needling has just set in motion. The reason it waits until day 3 rather than day 1 is simply that barrier recovery comes first — vitamin A belongs in the renewal phase, not the recovery phase. If your skin is sensitive or rosacea-prone, or still reactive on day 3, hold it a further day or two and reintroduce it gradually. This applies to your retinyl palmitate product; an Algologie Rivage anti-ageing product built on marine bio-retinol is a retinol-class active and follows the same day 3 timing.

Days 4–6

Your skin should be back to looking like itself, with a fresher, smoother finish. You can return to normal cleansing and your full serum routine. Mineral SPF 30+ every morning without fail — sun exposure in this window will undo the collagen work you've just paid for.

Day 7 onward

Back to your complete routine, including retinol and any acids if you use them. Sun protection remains daily, indefinitely. This is the point where your skin is ready for its next treatment if your plan calls for one.

• No makeup for 24 hours

• No heat, no swimming, no heavy sweating

• No Vitamin A, Vitamin C, retinol or acids until day 3

• SPF daily once you're back outside

Things that mean you should call us

Mild redness, tightness and dryness are all normal. Contact the salon if you experience spreading redness beyond the treated area, swelling that worsens rather than settles after 48 hours, blistering, a rash, or any sign of infection. If you're prone to cold sores and one appears, let us know straight away.

Why the first 48 hours matter so much

The micro-channels created during your treatment are open and receptive for a short window. What you put on your skin in that time is absorbed far more effectively than usual — which cuts both ways. Hydrating, barrier-supporting products go in deep and help. Strong actives, fragrance, acids and makeup can irritate freshly treated skin and set your recovery back. Keep it simple, keep it hydrated, and let your skin do its work.
